Football Recruiting: Marquez North Eliminates North Carolina

UPDATE: North tweeted his official commitment to Tennessee

Four star wide receiver Marquez North who was expected to make his decision on National Signing Day has eliminated the North Carolina Tar Heels and speculation now is that he will commit to the Tennessee Volunteers.

North has been down to the Vols and Tar Heels since early November.  His pick of Tennessee comes as a big surprise, insiders have speculated that the Heels were ahead of the Vols for months.

North visited Chapel Hill several times, attending numerous football and basketball games along with taking both official and unofficial visits.  He eliminated Clemson from his list after a visit on 11/24 and visited Tennessee on 10/20 and 11/12.

North made the transition to WR after transferring to Mallard Creek last season after playing quarterback and running back. North adapted quickly and accounted for 39 passes for 1,022 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound North is an extremely dangerous player. A rare athlete for his size, North has breakaway speed to go along with his large frame. He returns punts and kicks while starring at WR full time.  North’s senior season was cut short when he underwent season ending surgery two weeks ago, his recovery time is about four months.  North was selected to play in the US Army All-American Bowl but sat out due to injury.
