The state of North Carolina basketball has been like a roller coaster ride this season. The Tar Heels started the season ranked #13 in the nation but quickly slid down and out of the rankings with ugly losses to Butler, Texas and Indiana early in the season. After their first quality win of the year over UNLV they dropped their first two conference games against Virginia and Miami failing to score 60 points in both games.
Then UNC put together a string of three consecutive wins defeating Florida State in Tallahassee and besting Maryland and Georgia Tech at the Dean Dome. Heading into Saturdays contest with NC State a win would likely have catapulted the Heels back into the national rankings. But that’s when the coaster went right back down hill and UNC fell to a disappointing 13-6 (3-3) record and once again find themselves on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Two camps have formed in Tar Heel Nation, the I still believe camp that feels strongly that this team will turn things around, get into the tournament and has a chance to do damage. The other camp which is growing rapidly with each loss the team suffers is the we’re doomed for the NIT crowd.
Where do you stand?
