Reports are circulating that North Carolina has hired Keith Gilmore to fill their vacancy as the defensive line coach.
Gilmore replaces Deke Adams who left the North Carolina staff to work for Coach Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. Gilmore has been the DL coach at Illinois the past four seasons and previously held the position of assistant head coach/defensive line coach at Cincinnati.
Gilmore is a nice fit in Chapel Hill, he’s helped Illinois to a top 10 ranking in several categories during his tenure and did a nice job at Cincinnati. UNC has a lot of talent coming in on the DL that will need fast development with the loss of Slyvester Williams and Kevin Reddick who were the leaders of the defense last season.
Gilmore will have the task of developing four star prospects Dajuan Drennon, Nazair Jones and Greg Webb. UNC is also in the hunt for five star prospect Carl Lawson, Lawson was supposed to visit Chapel Hill today but the visit was cancelled due to weather. In the long run it may be a good thing, if he reschedules his visit he will now be able to meet his would be position coach.
