UNC Basketball Recruiting: Tar Heels Need to Offer Rashad Vaughn

Rashad Vaughn is waiting on an offer from North Carolina.  Vaughn scored 51 points in front of Carolina assistant coach C.B. McGrath and head coach Roy Williams went to watch him on January 5th but had to board a plane and didn’t have time to talk with Vaughn after the game.  Vaughn currently has offers from Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Maryland, Kansas, Florida, Syracuse and hometown Minnesota.

Vaughn was quoted as saying that he intended on speaking with Roy soon after his most recent visit and that Roy was supposed to offer him but had to leave.  Vaughn is a consensus five star, top ten player in the 2014 class with a ton of skill.  UNC has a big need for players who play the perimeter in the 2014 class with only J.P. Tokoto from the current roster slated to be apart of the team in 2014.  The program has offered Justin Jackson, Justise Winslow and Theo Pinson and has been watching Vaughn, D’Angelo Russell, Grayson Allen and have been linked to Jalen Linsey as well.

Vaughn is a big guard with the potential to play both wing positions at the next level.  He has a nice handle and can get to the rim with ease and use his body to finish in the lane.  He has a nice jumper with three point range but could stand to improve his shooting ability at the next level.

Although it is widely assumed that Vaughn will be offered from the Heels and mutual interest obviously exists UNC need to get moving on him.  As mentioned above the Heels have a big need for perimeter players in the 2014 class and cannot afford for a player of his magnitude to move on while the program waits.

I agree 200%. Lol. The boy is tough. In the cities if you ask around he’s better then Tyus. His jumper is actually the strength of his game. As his game (handles, passing ability, assertiveness) evolves he’ll get more and more attention. I know it’s early but we can get this kid. No MN kid wants to stay in state and play for the Gophers and right now he’s only taking visits that are in driving distance but if handled properly he could def be a Tar Heel.
