UNC Football: Look for WR Quinshad Davis to Take Larger Role in 2013

North Carolina wide receiver Quinshad Davis exploded onto the scene as a freshman with a 61 catch, 776 receiving yard and 5 touchdown season.  Davis joined a receiving group that supposed to struggle last season with the departure of Dwight Jones and the injury to T.J. Thorpe.  Only that wasn’t the case.

Davis forced his way into the WR rotation right away and made an immediate impact as a freshman in the Tar Heels high octane, fast paced offense. Quarterback Bryn Renner had one of the best statistical seasons of any UNC QB in history and Davis was a huge part of that, but he’ll be an even bigger part next season. Davis recently took to twitter to lay out his goals for next season.

Those sound like lofty goals but they will certainly be within reach for Davis who should become one of the main focal points of the UNC offense in 2013 that will be without running back Giovani Bernard and WR Erik Highsmith.  His 6-4 frame made him a terror on the sidelines and on jump balls against smaller defensive backs.  At just 186 lbs, he could stand to bulk up a little, Davis has good speed for his size and despite his terrific freshman season he still has tons of upside and potential to fulfill.

Without Bernard the Heels will likely go with a shared three back formation of Romar Morris, A.J. Blue and incoming freshman T.J. Logan.  At receiver Davis should emerge as the go to guy and with the talent he demonstrated his freshman year Davis is the type of player who could end up as one of the top receivers in the nation before his career is over at Carolina.
