The last time the North Carolina Tar Heels watched Rashad Vaughn of Minneapolis, MN he scored scored 51 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Head coach Roy Williams and assistant C.B. Mcgrath will represent the Tar Heels again today as Vaughns team Cooper will face Tyus Jones‘ team Apple Valley in Minnesota.
UNC has yet to offer Vaughn, a consensus five star prospect the program has offers out to Justin Jackson, Justise Winslow and Theo Pinson but have been turning up the heat on perimeter prospects in the 2014 class of late. They have been evaluating several perimeter prospects with Grayson Allen and D’Angelo Russell also receiving looks.
In other recruiting news point guard Shelton Mitchell has committed to Wake Forest and Joel Berry of Florida will make an official visit to Chapel Hill on January 19th. Representatives of the program have also watched big man Isaac Copeland several times recently although he doesn’t have an offer yet from the program either.
The Heels have six offers out in the 2014 class to Jackson, Winslow, Pinson, Jones, Berry and center Jahlil Okafor. Power forward Ivan Rabb recently became the first offer made in the 2015 class. The top prospect in the 2013 class Andrew Wiggins received a visit from Roy Williams on January 3rd and indicated that he will take his official visit sometime in the spring to Chapel Hill.
