ACC Basketball Will Soon Bounce Back With New Additions to the Conference

The ACC has just two teams in the Top 25 and although we still have plenty of time left in the season I’m sad to say that only the Duke Blue Devils have established themselves as a powerhouse this season.  But even if teams like North Carolina don’t get their acts together this season the ACC is about to get a huge jolt from additions to the conference which will easily keep them as one of the top basketball conferences in the nation.

The ACC will add several additions to the conference that will help restore the ACC as the nations top basketball conference in Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pitt.

Louisville will likely join after the 2014 season.  Syracuse and Pitt will join the conference next season.  And although we don’t have an exact date yet on Notre Dame it is expected to happen in either 2014 or 2015.

Just imagine if these programs were apart of the conference right now the league would have the #1 ranked team in Duke, #4 Louisville, #7 Syracuse, #21 Notre Dame, #23 NC State and Pitt at #24.  That’s three top ten teams and six Top 25 teams, very impressive and almost mind blowing considering that UNC is unranked this week.

It’s frustrating right now with only Duke and NC State in the rankings but these times won’t last long.  Conference play is always the best time of the regular season and when everything comes together in this conference things are going to get really exciting.

The ACC has never been a powerhouse on the gridiron and these additions won’t change that especially with the Irish remaining Independent in football but it could help restore the conference to respectability and for right now I’m okay with that.  The conference has always hung their hat on being a powerhouse on the hardwood, with all the uncertainty with conference realignment it will be nice to see some stability in the Atlantic Coast Conference in what we do best.
