UNC Basketball: Tar Heels Remain Unranked in New Top 25 Poll

After a big win against the then 20th ranked UNLV Runnin’ Rebels on Saturday the now 10-3 North Carolina Tar Heels remain unranked in this weeks Top 25 poll.  Roy Williams got his best performance of the season and the Heels first real resume building statement win in a 79-73 defeat, their first win against a ranked opponent this season.

UNC was dropped from the Top 25 in both polls last week after an embarrassing loss to the unranked Texas Longhorns.  In the ACC Duke remains atop the polls at #1 and North Carolina State remained at #23.   Future conference members Louisville comes in at #4 with Syracuse at #11, Notre Dame at #21 and Pittsburgh at #24.  At the time I am writing this only the AP Top 25 is available with UNC unranked they did garner the second most votes of the teams outside the Top 25 with 38 behind UNLV who received 52, the USA Today Coaches Poll will be available later today.

The Tar Heels return to action this week on Sunday in the opener of ACC play against Virginia followed by two games next week against Miami and Florida State.

Here’s a look at the entire poll.

that’s just wrong…we should be somewhere between 20-25 after that win against a ranked team without our best player (by best player I mean the player that is playng the best for us this season)

    • Keeping_It_Heel

I disagree, UNC has one signature win this year and have lost 3 ugly games to unranked teams. No team in the top 25 has 3 losses

One of the lossess was to the #1 team Indiana at the time. Butler is ranked 17th above. The Texas loss was the only real bad loss. I disagree.

yeah I misspoke, meant that 2 were to unranked teams, Butler was not ranked at the time of the loss. UNC was heavily favored in that game. With a win against VA hopefully we can get in next week

UCLA, UNC & UK ranked below Pittsburgh, K State and UNLV is ridiculous.

If Carolina can build off the UNLV win then they will be ranked again eventually. What happened in all three of their losses was a lack of heart, fight and they just gave up. In this UNLV game, they never gave the game to UNLV yet they were in it the whole game. We’ve seen this Carolina team lose a lead then just completly fall apart, even if its only by two points. This did not happen on Saturday, I am not super optimistic yet but moderatly hopefully that this was the spring board towards better play.

Rankngs don’t mean anything right now. Let it go. Historically, Carolina has always been ranked too high in preseason. Where else can they go but down? They do not have the team yet to be ranked, but they have plenty of time to pull off a good, if not a great season. They are young and need time. It’s going to be interesting to see how they do, but don’t get so caught up in rankings this early in the season.
