UNC Basketball: A Different Kind of Tar Heel Christmas Season

As we complete another holiday season, I hope Santa was good to you.  I got two tickets to the UNC vs. VA Tech game, so I musta done something right this past year.

This is the time we look back at the past year and remember fondly what has occurred and look forward hopefully to the future.  This past year, for the first time in a while, we were left with a “what if”.  I try not to dwell on the “what ifs” too much.  I try to be thankful for what was.  I’m thankful I got to cheer for Kendall, Harrison, John…. all those guys.  They were fun to watch.  I had an absolute blast watching them play together.

This season, we get to watch a young team try to figure it out.  Its gonna be painful at time.  Like watching a kid walk for the first time.  They’re gonna fall.  The question is, will they get back up?  I think they will.

I got to the age this year where I got a little for Christmas, but my little girl racked up.  I knew I was growing up when a) I was way more engaged with watching her open her presents than I was concerned with opening mine and b) I am writing this article from inside the princess castle with my little girl (see attached photo).

The top 5 favorite Carolina related gifts of all time are as follows –

5 – UNC – VA Tech basketball tickets.  Great job by the wife!
4 – UNC Hoodie.  It ranks really high because its a good luck hoodie.  I dunno if it makes it on the list if not for the 2009 National Championship.
3 – MJ autograph.  It was on a Bulls card, but it was a UNC gift.  Once a heel…..
2 – Roy Williams autographed basketball.  This holds a place of prominence in my house.  I’m quite proud of this ball.
And finally – 1 – Dean Smith autographed SI Sportsman of the Year edition.  I don’t display this.  I’ll occasionally look at it.  I love it.  When I look at it, I think about the history.  I can get lost for hours in the history.  But not while I’m in the princess castle.

With that, I will leave you to your leftovers and fudge and preparation for New Years.  I’d love to hear your favorite Carolina gifts.  Leave em in the comments.
