The top rated center in the 2014 class Jahlil Okafor stated recently that the program he is hearing most from is North Carolina.
Okafor and top rated point guard Tyus Jones have long stated their desire to play with one another and recently shooting guard Theo Pinson has joined in saying the dynamic duo may become a trio.
I have long doubted Carolinas ability to get Okafor due to the fact that UNC has numbers in the paint with two solid commitments in the 2012 and 2013 class all likely to be around in 2014 in Joel James, Brice Johnson, Isiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks making it tough to imagine the top rated center in the 2014 class wanted to fit into that group.
Throw in the fact that the Jones/Okafor package duo seems strong and Carolina already has Marcus Paige in 2012 and Nate Britt in 2013 making it hard to image Jones stepping in as a starter early in his career at Chapel Hill. Although the Tar Heels offered Jones first they seem to have focused their attention on Joel Berry as of late even visiting him while he was injured recently while the interest in Jones has cooled.
At the same time these package duos rarely pan out and Roy Williams has only offered one big man in the 2014 class in Okafor. The process with Okafor isn’t expected to wrap up anytime soon. He has visited both Carolina and Duke and has all the top programs in the country after him and would still like to eventually visit Kentucky and Michigan State.
