UNC Basketball: Previewing McNeese State

The North Carolina Tar Heels return home to face McNeese State at the Dean Dome in one of their final two tune up games before ACC conference play begins.

UNC was embarassed in Texas against the unranked Longhorns and after looking like a team that doesn’t deserve a top 25 ranking this will likely be their last contest as one for a long time. The Heels looked terrible on both ends of the court and played uninspired basketball for most of the games 40 minutes.

Team leaders James Michael McAdoo and Reggie Bullock both expressed that players on the team need to focus less on their stat lines and more on the teams performance after yet another disappointing loss. In my view the loss is just as much about coaching as it was about the players. Roy Williams and company need to figure out a way to get this team to play hard for 40 minutes, to look like they care about more than their individual statistics and to play like a team. To do that Roy has got to nail down a starting lineup and a rotation, otherwise I don’t see how the players are supposed to jell with one another.

McNeese State comes in on a winning streak and is riding a lot of confidence into the Dean Dome on a five-game winning streak. But like many before this game isn’t about the opponett, this is about the Tar Heels figuring things out. I for one am getting a bit sick of the excuse that this is a young team figuring things out, it’s about time they start playing hard and stop with the excuses. Time is running out, this is a team they should blow out without any hiccups, something they have yet to do this season.

It’s hard to grow up during conference play and the Tar Heels next game against UNLV will be no picnic so it has to be now. Judging by the way UNC has played this season it won’t be as easy as it should be on paper. Time to show up boys.
