UNC Football: Tar Heels will be Deep at RB Regardless of what Giovani Bernard does

Giovani Bernard is facing a very difficult decision, maybe the biggest in his young life so far, go to the NFL and become a millionaire or stay in Chapel Hill for another season under Larry Fedora at North Carolina.

Many players face this type of decision each year, Bernards is perhaps a bit more unique than the average run of the mill stay or go situation.  Bernard a red shirt sophomore this past season has put together two very impressive seasons rushing for over 1,000 yards in back to back seasons.  He is the top running back on pretty much every single NFL Mock Draft board in existence, he will also be a prime time contender for the Heisman trophy if he decides to comeback and he will play in a Bowl game, something he wasn’t able to do this season.

The Tar Heels offense was explosive this season and stands to get even better next year in their second season under Fedora, it is well documented how much fun Bernard had in his system this year where he was utilized as a runner, receiver and punt returner, then you have millions of dollars so who knows what #26 will do.

No matter what he does, UNC will be very good at the RB position with AJ Blue and Romar Morris returning and TJ Logan entering the fold (not to mention three star prospect Khris Francis).

Despite having the nations top back Fedora utilized all of talent on the roster at the position.  Blue assumed the power back role and looked good running between the tackles with 433 yards rushing averaging 5.3 yards per rush.  Morris in my opinion was a bit underutilized and has tons of potential to be a star with blazing speed and terrific ability as a rusher and receiver.  Morris went for 386 yards and a 5.6 yards per carry average.  Logan recently broke the state record with 510 yards and 8 touchdowns, Keeping It Heel’s Ben Williams described him as Romar Morris with a ton more wiggle.

It goes without saying that UNC will a heck of a lot better with Bernard back and competing for the Heisman trophy.  But even if he does decide to take the millions waiting for him in the NFL, Carolina will have a very good rushing attack.
