Even when current starter Bryn Renner graduates and heads to the NFL the North Carolina Tar Heels will have several good signal callers to choose from. 2014 four star prospect Will Grier of Davidson, NC tweeted his top five today and included the Tar Heels along with NC State, Oregon, Tennessee and Florida.
Head coach Larry Fedora already has ultra athletic Marquis Williams waiting in the wings and whispers of him competing for the starting job next season despite Renners success in Chapel Hill are very real. The 2013 class will also welcome talented dual threat passers Mitch Trubisky of Mentor, OH and James Summers of Greensboro, NC, both four star prospects who had excellent senior seasons. Grier isn’t the only 2014 signal caller with an offer from Carolina Jalan McClendon of Charlotte, NC and Travon McMillan of Woodbridge, VA are also considering UNC.
Earlier this month Grier threw for a national record 837 yards as his team put up an astonishing 104 points in a win over Harrells. Grier is a big time prospect who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 192-pounds who finished his season with a North Carolina state record 68 touchdown passes.
Fedora has built his early recruiting success on a North Carolina Dream Team strategy centered around building his team around local recruits. After disastrous results in terms of keeping top talent in state for local schools, Fedora has done an excellent job of driving home his strategy and attracting some of the top players to Chapel Hill. UNCs 2013 recruiting class is considering one of the best in the nation and he’s carrying that strategy over to the class of 2014.
Expect this to be a heated battle for Griers services, Carolina looks to be in good position with him but the collection of signal callers Fedora has already secured could be a deterrent.
