2014 5-Star Safety Quin Blanding has narrowed his list to 10 schools and is considering North Carolina along with Florida State, Virginia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Miami, Clemson, NC State and Michigan. The 6-2, 200 pound standout from Virginia Beach VA is one of the most sought after defensive back prospects in the 2014 class.
Blanding is rated as the #1 safety in the class by scout is still early in the process after cutting at least 15 programs to get down to his current top 10. Although it’s far too early to consider a favorite, Virginia is probably in the best position right now to land the Blanding whom has visiting the Cavaliers campus several times already.
Blanding is very smooth in coverage with tremendous ball skills. His athletic ability makes him a candidate to transition to cornerback at the next level. A big safety he is a terrific open field tackler who is a natural at making plays all over the field. Scouts see Blanding as a prospect who will continue to ascend in the rankings and improve on his already stellar reputation.
UNC currently has offers out to three other defensive backs so far in the 2014 class including safety C.J. Reavis and cornerbacks Troy Vincent and Christopher Murphy along with a commitment from two star corner Tajze Battle.
New head coach Larry Fedora has done a tremendous job on the recruiting front and put together an impressive 2013 class. He has yet to nab a five star prospect and landing Blanding would be huge for the program.
