UNC Basketball Recruiting: 2014 SF Dwayne Morgan Cuts Tar Heels

2014 SF Dwayne Morgan announced his list of six schools to Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Seton Hall, South Florida and UNLV.  Morgan had received interest from the Tar Heels and listed UNC on a long list prior to trimming his list today.  Morgan is one of the elite perimeter players in the nations 2014 class.  A consensus five star prospect, Morgan is rated the #4 SF in the class.  He did not however, hold an offer from Carolina.

Roy Williams has three offers out to perimeter players in the class.

Andrew Wiggins the consensus top prep player regardless of class is considered a long shot favored to go to Florida State where his father played or Kentucky is still considering UNC.  The main targets at the position appear to be Justin Jackson and Justise Winslow whom both received offers from Carolina in July.

Jackson appears to be the strongest candidate at this point to accept his offer, he has been attending UNC basketball camps since the 8th grade and recently attended Late Night with Roy along with fellow 2014 star Shelton Mitchell and preps from the 2013 class that included Nate Britt, Isiah Hicks, Kennedy Meeks and Troy Williams.

New recruiting insider at Keeping It Heel John Finlayson believes that Morgan who is from Baltimore, could end up at the University of Maryland.  I do not believe this is something Tar Heel fans should worry about factoring in that Morgan did not even have an offer from UNC.  With three offers out to perimeter players and others like Jalen Lindsey and Rashad Vaughn still out there.

I personally love Jalen Lindsey and his game. Iv’e seen him in person and am disappointed we’ve yet to offer him. Being he’s from Tenn and his obvious passion for the heels it seems to be a no brainer. If these young men express interest from the beginning in our program and their top tier prospects then why waste time on other guys w/ similar games and not as good a shot at. Just saying I would hate to lose him because we’re waiting so late to offer, when he’s just as good as the others w/ the exception of Wiggins. This guy wants to be a Heel.

Yeah we need to offer him, and set up a visit.

I agree 100% …not sure why we waste time chasing the other kids. I like Lindsay and Berry. I think most fans want these guys. Although, Justin Jackson seems like a good candidate too.

I think it’s wise for every program to have backup plans in place

Gotta agree with you goheels there is no reason why we keep chasing these wild cards & end up missing out on people that actually want to go to UNC & bleed baby blue.Joel Berry,Justin Jackson,& Jalen Linsey stick out to me as good recruits to start with in 2014.

I’ve wondered why Berry hasn’t committed yet to his “dream school”

I think most players wait to make their decisions. He needs to visit UNC and I think we get Berry. I like him more than Tyus at this point.

        • Keeping_It_Heel

I like Berry a lot also but no way is he better than Tyus Jones

The 2 things that the 2013 recruiting class has proved to me, is have a back up plan & don’t put all your eggs in one basket for certain players.I mean I understand its part of the game just seemed to really back fire this time. Gotta agree with you Jessica about Joel Berry I absolutely love this kids game.I think when its all said & done Berry will be the best PG out of his class.Hopefully he’s in Carolina Blue sooner & later to start building around him.
