Late Night with Roy: The lowdown on the Roydown!

For the past two years, I have attended “Late Night with Roy.” I do not know what is funnier – the skits or seeing Roy “attempt” to dance. The key word being “attempt.” Do not get me wrong. Roy Williams can coach his butt off; however, when it comes to dancing, he  literally needs to keep his day job. He is not John Travolta.

My Keeping It Heel colleague, Matt Hamm, kept it Heel earlier this week by posting details about “Late Night with Roy.”  My piece is not a duplicate of what he stated. For starters (and benchwarmers – if you do not get it, laugh now and figure it out later), you can also park at University Mall and catch a bus to the Dean Dome. My brother (an avid Tar Heel fan who had the great idea of getting our parents to paint our bedroom Carolina blue) told me about this a few years ago. There is a great deal of parking at University Mall, or “U-Mall” for short.

In addition, I think that you can park at the the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, also. This building is located down the street from Carmichael Auditorium and around the corner from Finley Golf Course off Highway 54, going towards Durham. My brother and I also park here and catch the bus to the Dean Dome, when we go to basketball games.

For everyone who plans to get their “grub on” at the event, the concession stands will be open. The burgers sold at the Dean Dome are courtesy of the “Andy’s” restaurants. In addition, “Chick Fil-A” chicken sandwiches. I like the large cups that are sold there, also. In fact, I always buy a large drink just so I can get the over-sized plastic cup decorated with Carolina players on it. For die-heard Tar Heel fans and alums, it is worth the extra dollars. You cannot find these at Wal-Mart.

Last but not least, the event is hosted by Stuart Scott. This guy eats, drinks, and well, passes Carolina. His blood is Carolina blue. He is just as excited as the audience when he is MCing the event. Stu makes this event fun and memorable, just as much as the players and coaches do with their humor.

Come out, get some grub, have some laughs, and enjoy watching the 2012-2013 Tar Heels do their thing! Oh, by the way, Tarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
