UNC Basketball Recruiting: Wayne Selden Eliminates Tar Heels

by Basketball Recruiting

2013 shooting guard Wayne Selden has trimmed his list down to six schools: Ohio State, Florida, UCLA, Missouri, Kansas, and Syracuse.   Selden, who never received an official offer from UNC, has eliminated Carolina from consideration.

Selden is a very powerful player who is relentless attacking the basket. He’s great at using his body to absorb contact and finish at the basket, he gets to the free throw line a lot and shoots a high percentage. An efficient offensive player who takes high percentage shots and can create from anywhere on the floor.

Selden has a good motor and is very good in transition. With offers out to Troy Williams and Jabari Parker along with a stacked perimeter, UNC is in no hurry to make anymore offers to perimeter players in the 2013 class. While they have showed interest  in Selden and other perimeter players like Nick King or Keith Frazier.  They have yet to make an offers to perimeter players other than Williams and Parker.

Williams has offered several perimeter players in the 2014 class but has focused on bigs in the 2013 class with the recent loss of Tyler Zeller and John Henson and the anticipated loss of James Michael McAdoo after the 2012 season.

Selden is ranked #21 by Rivals and #13 overall in the class by ESPN.  Given his all around skills and high basketball IQ, I see Selden as a player who would have been an excellent fit in Carolina. His aggressive offensive style would blend well with Roy Williams high octane offense.

It will be interesting to see if and how UNC reacts as more and more players trim their lists and start to make decisions as the summer winds down.  Will they continue to wait on Williams and Parker or will they begin looking elsewhere to secure a 2013 wing?
