Tyrone Crowder, the highest rated recruit from the state of North Carolina, cut his list to four today. The four star offensive guard is down to North Carolina, Clemson, Stanford, and Georgia. This is huge news for Larry Fedora and company as Crowder, along with receiver Marquez North, has been one of the coaching staff’s top priories.
Crowder 6’2”, 325 lbs is a tremendous combination of size and athleticism. This kid is a mauler that plays with a lot of intensity to the whistle every single play. Excellent at getting to the second level, Crowder intimidates opponents and is known for going through several levels of the defense and handling multiple defenders on the same play. Crowder had a very strong series of camp appearances over the summer and looks primed for his senior year and last preparation for college football.
As athletic as Crowder is, he needs to watch his weight a little bit and define his body for the next level. Before Crowder cut his list, he had offers from at least 15 programs. Fedora ‘s stated main mission is to keep the top in-state talent from going elsewhere. If he can land the Rockingham native, his credibility as a recruiter will continue to take off. UNC is now up to 16 commitments in the 2013 class of which nine are from the great state of North Carolina. If added, Crowder would become the third OL in the class joining RJ Prince and Lucas Crowley.
According to ESPN, Crowder “spoke glowingly about the new coaching staff at North Carolina”. He hasn’t listed any leaders or favorites but expect the Tar Heels to be in it until the very end.
