Basketball Recruiting: UNC Offers Berry

2014 standout point guard Joel Berry confirmed to the public on Monday morning that Coach Roy Williams did in-fact offer him a scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina Sunday evening.

Berry is a 6’0″, 185 pound five-star point guard ranked 18th overall in the 2014 recruiting class. Many recruiting experts expect him to move up in the ranking when they are revised in the coming weeks. He has some natural raw talent that fits very well in Williams’ coaching philosphy. He is also a fan favorite in Tar Heel Nation.

Fans have been waiting on this offer for months, and wondered if it would ever happen. Now we can settle down for a while and just wait for Berry to make his decision.

This is the second offer Williams has made to a point guard. The other week UNC made an offer to Tyus Jones another five-star recruit that is ranked 3rd overall.

UNC has a pretty solid 2013 class coming in with more recruits decisions to be in the coming months. The 2014 class overall is shaping up to be the most talented the NCAA has seen in a few years.

It would appear that Renn is correct in that Williams is using the recruiting strategy that he depicted in the other article.

      certainty more aggressive than usual.

Would you rather have Joel berry or tyus jones?

IDK, Berry is more athletic and i think a better defender (not positive he’s a better defender though) but Jones has a higher Bball IQ and is a better passer. Not sure who the better scorer is. Berry loves Carolina Blue too.

Berry is really improving! i hope he picks unc! id love a guy who could pass like marshall, but thats not likely to happen again! he was that gret at passing! I think berry is faster and a better scorer, so thats why i would prefer him. He recently went off on julius randles team with like 28 points! Would LOVE him to be a heel!

21 points with 5 assists and he was 8-8 on free throw shooting. He’s very physical and he gets to the hole a ton which leads to a lot of free throws which he shoots at high clip.

He’s really good I just don’t know if he wants to play behind Paige and britt

I’m with John V in that IDK either. They both lack the size that Cal likes in a PG (which makes this Ryan Harrow experiment this year quite interesting). I would take who the better shooter is at that size. I also don’t think we are recruiting Berry.

I LOVE this offer! I hope he plays for us!!!
