Andrew Wiggins who may be the best high school basketball player in North America listed the North Carolina Tar Heels along with Kentucky, Florida State, Syracuse and Duke as one of the top schools pushing for his services.
Wiggins who plays in Canada is a terrific player and the debate rages on whether he or Jabari Parker out of Chicago is the best prep player. In an exclusive with Adam Zagoria, Wiggins had this to say:
Wiggins is a physical freak who runs the floor like a point guard, can lead the break with very good ball handling skills, is great in isolation and can create for himself and teammates in the half court. A natural and smooth operator in the half court, Wiggins gets to the rim in a hurry with his explosive, attacking style that often surprises defenders.
Wiggins has improved his jump shot and range over the summer and is a more than capable contributor in all facets of the game offensively. Wiggins is not a flashy player, with a tremendous basketball IQ, everything he does on the court serves a purpose. He doesn’t waste dribbles or hang around the perimeter, he attacks at full speed and often overwhelms the opposition.
I’m surprised to hear that Florida State is pursuing Wiggins harder than both Carolina and Duke. Given the wide spread opinion that Parker will stay close to home in Illinois, I would have expected UNC and Duke to press harder for potentially the best player in the nation.
