My Take on Previewing UNC Football for 2012

A few other writers here at Keeping It Heel have already written a piece on how they think the Tar Heels will fair this football season. I haven’t had the chance to do so yet, and think I will right now. The more the merrier right?

Easy wins that you can almost guarantee a victory for Carolina. Yes, I believe they exist. I believe this team is much better than the media is letting you believe. We lost good talent, but we also have a lot of good talent returning.

Elon just doesn’t really have much of a program, sure they’re good guys, but come on…really? You think they have a chance? Then there is Wake Forest. I’ve seen them as a weakness of ACC football. They’ve really never been good, yet that take on this attitude like they can win a National Championship. That’s great for moral, but come on…be a little more realistic Coach Grobe! That one good run WF had in 2006…didn’t last long! Idaho was a tough choice to make. I’ve seen them play strong, and then seen them play horrible. I just think Carolina has the better coaching staff, talent, and resources and that in the end will win them the game. I would explain why Duke will be creamed by the Tar Heels, but I don’t think anyone actually needs an explanation. Lastly, there is Maryland. They’ve had a lot of off season problems and I just don’t see them being a strong threat anywhere in the ACC this season.

Toss ups…yeah there are a few games that could play into Carolina’s favor, and they could play into our opponents favor. Louisville was a close game that last time we met them. We barely escaped, now we’re playing them on their turf. My gut feelings says this game is leaning in Louisville’s favor, but maybe we’re still the better team. East Carolina is another tricky prediction to make because some years they’re really good, and then others they have you thinking they’re good but they’re really not. I think the Heels are better than them talent wise, despite the lack of a big 2012 recruiting class, so I think this is game you can expect the Heels to win! NC State has had our number for the past few seasons, yet they haven’t been that great of a team every season. The UNC/State game is always kind of a toss up regardless of how many State has won in a row now. Lastly, is Virginia. There has been a lot of hype about this team this year, but I’ve never really seen Virginia have a great season. I just don’t see it happening, and this game should go to Carolina easily.

Virginia Tech, Miami, and Georgia Tech should easily beat the Heels. These guys have been the power houses of ACC Football for years, and don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Carolina win and I do think they can beat them, I’m just being realistic. We played strong and came close to these guys last year, but in the end, it apparently wasn’t meant to be.

I think next season will be a decent season with a winning record. I’m predicting a 7-5 season. Hopefully the bowl ban won’t take away the motivation Coach Fedora has put into these guys.

By the way, the 2012 season hasn’t even started and I”m already excited about 2013. No more penalties, big recruiting class, and we play the South Carolina Gamecocks to start the season! I’d love to hear what Spurrier is yelling if we can pull the upset off!
