Jared Armstrong is starting to catch fire in the 2015 class. As a freshman, Armstrong started for Christopher Dock and quickly rose as one of the best point guards in the class. Jared was nice enough to sit down with Keeping It Heel recently and give us a little insight into his life as a young prospect.
KIH: How much shooting guard do you anticipate playing in the future?
JA: I played mostly point guard while attending Dock, I have slowly transitioned to being more of a combo guard due to my ability to move the ball and create plays and to shoot off the dribble and to score on 3pt shots..
KIH: Your nickname back in Philly, D1, do people still call you that?
JA: Funny.. I am still humble about that nickname. I was giving that name via my big brothers (Tony Chennault and Dion Walters) due to my hard work in the gym and playing against older guys and being able to score.. even though I was the smallest player on the court at that time.
KIH: What parts of your game are you concentrating most on improving over the summer?
JA: Well there is never one concentration when it comes to the game.. The most important part of the game I always try to improve is my mental capability and IQ performance, knowing when to make the right decisions on the court and how to make my physical ability stand out along side my teammates.
KIH: Can you talk about what colleges are showing you the most attention? Any offers?
JA: I currently have a couple interests from high major D1 and mid-major universities.. I try to keep my head in the books and worried about my grades and getting BIGGER STRONGER & FASTER .. I guess you will have to keep watching TV to find out in the future.
KIH: Do you have a favorite player or somebody you try and emulate your game after?
JA: Chris Paul has been my favorite player ever since was a rookie in the NBA. I try to emulate his game, by being a leader and a positive image to my teammate.
KIH: Have you talked with anyone from UNC at all?
JA: I’d rather not comment too much on that, but their have been some interest.
KIH: Do you or have you ever had a favorite college basketball team?
JA: North Carolina has always been my favorite college basketball team. That’s my dream school!
KIH: Take us through your workout regimen
JA: That’s classified lol.. but I work out 4 days week and training on Saturdays for about 5hrs.. ball handling and shooting drills
KIH: Have you thought about what major you will pick in college?
JA: Finance or Communications
KIH: If you were forced to compare your game to someone at the college or NBA level, past or present who would it be and why?
JA: Chauncey Billups. I compare my game to him because we both play exactly alike. We both have the ability to shoot the basketball from anywhere on the floor, he is a very good floor general who has the slow & the fast game which makes it hard from him to defend.
