Shabazz Muhammad & Nerlens Noel will announce their college intentions on a live ESPN event that reeks of “The Decision” by Lebron James a couple years ago. I hate these types of spectacles, I hate it every single national signing day in football. And I hated it when Harrison Barnes decided he had to Skype his decision (of course I was over it the minute he chose Carolina). It’s not Noel or Muhammad’s fault, what 18 year old wouldn’t want to be on ESPN?
With the losses of Tyler Zeller and John Henson, Carolina needs another big man. They were in the running for Noel and he had a scheduled visit to Chapel Hill. UNC was amongst his remaining four finalists and was the only school he’s eliminated since trimming his list to four schools. Suddenly he cancelled his visit in late March and that was that. UNC is still going after senior transfer Alex Oriakhi and has been linked to another transfer Anthony Gill of South Carolina (though he has to sit out a year).
Could there be a surprise in store? Could Noel or Muhammad for that matter put on a Carolina hat on national TV and shock everyone? I guess anything is possible, but no it won’t happen. In today’s Twitter, Facebook, smart phone, information available in 0.0001 seconds, nothings a secret.
The only way it could be possible would be if Noel or Muhammad secretly wanted to go to Carolina so bad they called Roy and said changed my mind, please take me in Carolina. Doubt it, Kentucky is pouring it on thick and just won the national championship. Everyone is leaving, Calipari just got a bonus, he also just turned down the notion of going to the NBA. Picking up what I’m putting down?
The only thing I’m rooting for is Muhammad to pick someone other than Duke. As long as that happens I’m happy.
