UNC Basketball Recruiting: Julius Randle

Julius Randle the #2 ranked player in the 2013 recruiting class, is a tough prospect to talk about, frankly, when I watch him play I’m not sure exactly what type of player I’m watching.  Randle is a tweener right now in terms of his projected position at the next level and beyond.  At 6-9, 225 you would normally pencil him in as a power forward and move on.  But that may not be what Julius Randle is, if I were held at gun point and forced to compare him to another player, I’d have to go Marvin Williams. Randle has a lot of skill and an almost hyper active motor on the court.  The 2013 five star recruit plays the game with the type of fire and passion I would relate to Tyler Hansbrough or Kevin Garnett.  His confidence on the court exudes in everything he does and it’s not hard to mistaken his confidence for cockiness.

Another player I’m reminded of when watching Randle face up and attack is James Michael McAdoo.  McAdoo is much stronger though and has a higher ceiling as a pure post player in my opinion.  Randle also has a nice post up game and isn’t afraid to be aggressive on the blocks.  No matter what position he plays, the kid has mad skills let’s just put it that way.  His athleticism is up there with Jabari Parker and Troy Williams as tops in the 2013 recruiting class.  The fact that he has a developing post up game to go along with a nice face and attack offensive strength will translate well on the next level.

Randle is being chased by all the usual suspects.  Duke, Kentucky, NC State, Missouri, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas, and TCU.  Roy Williams has already secured five star point guard Nate Britt and five star power forward Isiah Hicks in the 2013 class.  Along with Randle they have known offers out to Jabari Parker, Troy Williams, and Randle.  They have also been rumored to be keeping an eye on center Kennedy Meeks, power forward Austin Nichols, and small forwards Nick King and Keith Frazier.

Randle has a running blog on ESPN.com, here’s what he recently had to say about his recruiting and upcoming visits.

N.C. State is kind of new to me, but I’ve definitely got some interest in them with my bro Rodney Purvis there and I had a good time when I visited there a few months back.

If I do come I would probably visit UNC and Duke too, but I don’t know for sure if I’m coming yet. I’ll keep you guys posted on that.
