UNC Basketball Recruiting: Nerlens Noel is Coming In For a Visit

The top recruit of the 2012 class, who just reclassified from the 2013 class Nerlens Noel is planning a visit to Chapel Hill later on this month.  He visited with Georgetown and is also considering Syracuse and Kentucky on his recently trimmed list.  I find it fitting that Noel has it down to four teams while we’re all on the brink of March Madness.  I can talk about a final four already and that’s gravy in my book any day.  Bring on the Noel recruitment.  I want Harrison Barnes, John Henson, Tyler Zeller, Kendall Marshall, PJ Hairston, James Michael McAdoo, Reggie Bullock, Dexter Strickland and Leslie McDonald to take this guy around and show him what he could get by playing in Carolina.  Bring out the big guns boys, take him to Carolina-Duke III.  I’m predicting the Tar Heels bust up the Blue Devils in the ACC Title game just like they did at home.  Wouldn’t that be beautiful, letting him see that magic in person.  It was the alumni game on the programs 100th anniversary that sealed the deal for Harrison Barnes then recruitment.  Bring him to the real deal this time, he can stroll campus with the boys anytime.

After initially thinking adding Noel would be a bad idea as I usually shy away from likely one and done players.  Watching this kid and the machine he could potentially be is hard to pass up.  With Tyler Zeller graduating and John Henson likely to go pro, especially if Carolina wins the title.  Putting Noel beside McAdoo with incoming freshman Joel James and Brice Johnson would be ideal.  While James and Johnson are nice prospects, each four star recruits, both need to work on polishing their games and bodies for the next level.  They will be ready to play and will come in more ready than compared to Desmond Hubert, but aren’t as talented as guys like McAdoo, Zeller, Hansbrough, Henson mold.

Noel is, and he reminds me a whole lot of a young pre-blown out knees Greg Oden, the Ohio St Oden.  Only Noel is starting to come around offensively and his game looks more and more complete everyday.  His ball handling, jump shot and post up game have all dramatically improved since his last season and have even seen leaps during the regular season.  Since reclassifying to the 2012 class he has trimmed his list and gushed about Carolina, now it’s time for the visit, let’s reel another one in boys.
