UNC Football 2013 Recruiting: WR/ATH Ryan Switzer

With news breaking the UNC has offered 2013 athlete Ryan Switzer.  We’ve teamed up with Victory Bell Rings the Networks PSU site. Their editor Tim Tolley was fortunate enough to catch up with Switzer recently.   According to Tim this is what Switzer had to say about his UNC recruitment:

“both of my parents’ families are from North Carolina and it’s like a 2nd home to us.”

Ryan recently commented on twitter: “I can’t get enough of hearing about how short or small I am. Goodness people argue over my height and weight nonstop!”
At 5’8″(ish) and 170 lbs, it’s not a mystery why people are curious, but the fact that Switzer has offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Florida State and now West Virginia means that some people must not be worried about it. Add me to THAT list. Once you watch his film, you can join us.

I’ve seen at least 100 highlight reels of 2013 prospects and few stick out in my mind quite like Ryan’s.
Many fans, especially Penn Staters, want to compare Switzer to New England Patriots WR Wes Welker. If he becomes a Nittany Lion, that is likely to be the role that he plays. Personally, I liken him to Darren Sproles. Short in stature, but remember that 170 is thick for that height. Low center of gravity allows him to be elusive and Ryan adds elite speed to that. Several times in his highlights you see him make one player miss and boom, touchdown.
Some people are skeptical, quick to point out that WV doesn’t produce top level talent and it’s hard to judge Switzer based on his competition. With 45 total touchdowns, it’s clear that Ryan is playing on a different level compared to the competition.

There are several examples, but check out his plays 1:40 and 3:20 for a good look at his speed. In the first play, Ryan shoots up the middle and everybody else looks like they’re standing still.

Be sure to support Victory Bell Rings who were generous enough to share this scouting report and the words the shared with a Tar Heel recruit with me so I could pass it along to Tar Heel Nation.
