What a great day to a North Carolina Tar Heel! First UNC wins a tough road game in Maryland defeating the Terrapins after trailing early. Then the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Duke Blue Devils at Cameron. I wonder what Coach K’s excuse will be this time? I know, I know, it’s probably the fact that Duke didn’t have enough fans cheering in the student section. You know, since they can’t even get their own spoiled, disgusting students to go to their games (unless of course UNC is in town).
I’m not a person that enjoys kicking a dead horse, beating a man while he’s down or anything like that. Unless that horse is dressed in Duke Blue, then all I want to do is kick that stupid horse until my foot hurts. NEVER, EVER, not once, in history have the Miami Hurricane’s defeated Dook at Cameron. I didn’t even start watching the game until mid way through the second half when I read it was close. Even as a die hard Tar Heel and almost evenly faithful Duke hater, I put a W in for Duke before tip off today.
The best part was the way Duke lost. In overtime in an intense game that had the little rat running around crying the whole time. Reggie Johnson a huge 6-10, 284 pound monster crushed Duke in his career game. Scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, both career highs. Listen to Coach K both whine and brag about Duke’s history at the same time. I hate this man with a passion!
“A Duke team should play with energy for 40 minutes, or 45,” coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “Go outside right now and you look at the banners — there are quite a few of them up there. They were not won without energy, without hunger, with no complacency, with people really wanting it.”And we’ve wanted it a lot, and we’ve won a lot. We’re supposed to play hard and with energy all the time. Those are givens. Those should be givens.”
A big man crushing Duke inside over and over is a great sign as we head into Wednesday. UNC has the best 1-2 punch inside in the nation in Tyler Zeller and John Henson. Watching the entire game over was wonderful, Duke looked like a bunch of chumps. They had no idea what to do inside and Miami gave it to them in the first half & OT.
Momentum is a big deal in college basketball. And right now UNC has a whole lot more of it than Duke does. Since the beat down the Heels took at the hands of Florida State, UNC has matured. The Heels have looked tougher, played more resilient basketball, and won on the road. Duke on the other hand, has lost two of its last five games with both losses coming at Cameron. Duke has two losses against unranked opponents this year. The last time that happened, Duke lost to VCU in the first round of the tourney and finished the season unranked.
In other words, exactly what you want Duke to be going through right now before they face the Heels. They are going through, and our Tar Heels are starting to play better and things are looking up. It’s Duke week Tar Heel Nation! And we’re only getting started!
